Tesla Motors has just released a revised filing for their upcoming IPO. Tesla are reportedly buying NUMMI plant for $42 million and it is now confirmed that Tesla doesnt have a formal deal with Toyota to build a new electric vehicle yet.

For anyone who followed the hyped news of the Tesla-Toyota partnership last week, it would seem that the two companies had signed an official agreement to build what Tesla CEO Elon Musk was calling a “third-generation” vehicle (its Model S sedan is the second generation) together. In fact, the purchase of NUMMI only seems to make sense if this joint car project comes to fruition – the Model S is only supposed to make up a small fraction of the vehicles produced at the facility.

The compact FT-CH hatchback was unveiled on Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The CH stands for compact hybrid as in compact class and it’s a concept that can best be defined by comparing it with the mid-size class Prius. According to Toyota execs the new model is 22 inches shorter than its Prius predecessor.

The FT-CH is a concept that would address Toyota’s stated strategy to offer a wider variety of conventional hybrid choices to its customers, as it begins to introduce plug-in hybrids (PHVs) and battery electrics (BEVs) in model year 2012, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCHVs) in 2015 in global markets.

Toyota has just released the pricing for their 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan. Prices range $24,600 for the standard model to $30,500 for the sport model, while the top of the range is at $39,770.

V6 models will only be available initially, with the four-cylinder base Sienna and LE joining the lineup in April, along with the SE. It looks like the V6 will add between $1,250 and $3,555 to the price of the base Sienna and LE, the only models available with the Venza’s four-banger. In fact, the four-cylinder LE undercuts the V6 base Sienna by a few bucks.

The company once known for its sports-coupes recently unveiled the FT-86 concept, and could be set to follow up with a gasoline-electric resurrection of the cult classic MR2. The budget-friendly mid-engine/rear-drive sportscar had a big following who led the legions of the disappointed when the third-generation model was discontinued two years ago.

Details are scarce, but according to Japan’s Best Car, we’re looking at a two-seat two-door coupe with a gasoline engine mounted amidships behind the cabin, coupled to an electric motor in a more performance-oriented version of the Toyota Synergy Drive popularized by the Prius. Reports suggest it could adopt the MR-S nameplate, which is what the last MR2 was known as in Japan, so there’s just as good a chance that it could wear the MR2 nameplate on this side of the Pacific. That’s about all we’ve got for now, but if we all (Toyota included) play our cards just right, Japan’s beloved budget mid-engined car could be coming back…with a charge.

Inside Line are reporting that Toyota may be close to announcing that they will shorten the gas pedal of the four million vehicles affected by their latest recall.

Toyota recently published a statement to address the issue, stating it would “take a closer look at the potential for an accelerator pedal to get stuck in the full open position due to an unsecured or incompatible driver’s floor mat.”

The alleged fix would be performed by Toyota dealership employees at no charge to the customer. The report doesn’t mention whether the floor mats would be secured in addition to the pedal shortening, but we’re assuming Toyota and Lexus dealers will kill two birds with one stone. Swapping out four million accelerator pedals will probably be a pricey endeavor, but Toyota claims it has saved up $5.6 billion over the years in its recall kitty for just such a rainy day.
